How to Create a Photo Website
How to create a Photo site is a question I get frequently and there are multiple possible answers in function of the purpose of the site.
The purpose of a Photo Site can be: expose and share photos with friends and family, sell photos, create a diary or scrapbook online, archive your pictures online, share Photography Tips and Tricks, use photos to attract visitors, storm Google Top 10 with your Photos and Images.

The Purpose of my Photo Site
My priorities are:
- Google Top 10 with Images, Pictures and Photos.
- Appealing Presentation and interactivity.
- Sharing Digital Photography Tips and Photo Editing and Publishing Skills.
- Security and Copyright issues.
- Selling Web Design and Development Skills and Scripts.
Priority 1: Google Top 10
Google Top 10 stands for high visibility and in fact, the ambition goes beyond Google and extends to Social Networks. To reach Google Top 10, great content needs to be published in a Google efficient way.
At my knowledge, the best scripts to reach out for Google Top 10 are site scripts signed by Semiomantics. As an individual publisher, I will not make any concession to the quality of my publishing framework and only the best is good enough.
I go for a Semiomantics XO and or a NewsCast script which will be customized for the purpose of this exercise. Semiomantics is built on a WordPress backbone and unites the qualities of an efficient Content Management System with the dynamic of a Semantic Publishing Framework.
Photo Layout
Priority 2: Appealing Presentation
CSS based design is flexible and Google efficient. While Flash presentations of images are nice, I would not exclusively publish in flash format.
Color Schemes for Photo sites usually oscillate between Black and White passing through all kinds of Gray shades. The first theme will be dominated by Black.
Important are Indexes which allow visitors to easily find images. The Menus and Management of Images will be important.
The Front Page of the site is photo driven, while the individual images are loaded into individual dynamic and cached content pages with associated text for better publishing, tagging and on-site and off-site optimization. Semiomantics will take care of this part.
Visitors must be able to interact and comment. Downloads and Uploads by visitors will be possible.
Graphic Presentation and Design
The idea is to build a widely transparent multilayer site where photos and their transparency offer an attractive alternative to the standard photo sites. Experimenting is needed as no known example exists of what I have in mind.

Priority 3: Sharing Digital Photography Tips and Photo Editing and Publishing Skills
To get some additional meat on the bone, I will share some tips and tricks pertaining to digital Photography and it’s technology. The purpose is to help visitors shooting better pics with their digital cameras.
Important as well is the photo editing process and then, to achieve our Google Top 10 visibility, editing an publishing of our pictures on the web. The instruments used are GIMP (free) Photoshop, Illustrator and other Adobe products as well as the potential of the Semiomantics Scripts.
Priority 4: Security and Copyright Issues
Important and yet a matter of choice for each individual publisher. What kind of license to use, what kind of rights to sell, how to protect the site content and how to protect the content we sell and have sold.
